Trent Shuey is an educator, arranger, and award-winning percussionist. Trent walks to the beat of “A different drummer... Trent is the man for all styles.” – The Hermiston Herald (2000). He maintains an active international career as a percussion soloist, orchestral percussionist, and jazz drummer. Trent holds a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance with a minor in Music Education from Eastern Oregon University, a Master of Music in Percussion Performance with a minor in Jazz Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Trent is a recipient of the Edgard Varese Percussion Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a student of William Moersch, Ricardo Flores, Andrew Heglund, Cody Remaklus, Teun Fetz, Alan Keown, Matt Savage, and Jon Brill. He endorses Innovative Percussion Inc. 

 

As a versatile percussionist, Trent has performed with orchestras, big bands, combos, and chamber ensembles in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. As a drummer, he has performed with the Reno Jazz Orchestra, UNR Lab II, I-Pan (steel drums) and countless other combos in any style. He has recorded with Dakota Brown Band (EP), PS Jazz Quartet (EP), UNR Jazz Festival (CD, 2010), and many other projects.

 

Trent just finished his ninth year as Assistant Director of Bands and Senior Instructor of Percussion at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. He is the Director of the ASU Jazz Ensembles, Ram Horns, Percussion Ensemble, and Ram Band Drumline. He has been guest conductor and marimba soloist with the ASU Wind Ensemble, guest soloist with the ASU Symphony Orchestra, and performed numerous solo and chamber recitals in the San Angelo area. He is an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha and Tau Beta Sigma.
